Yolanda Be Cool & DCUP - We No Speak Americano

Jedward have already completed a sold-out 27-date nationwide tour of Ireland this year !

Katy Perry

Katy Perry’s massive No.1 ‘California Gurls’ has broken a US airplay record.
Her song, (which is currently No.1 in countless countries including: America, UK, Australia, Ireland & New Zealand singles charts), has received the most spins on radio over the course of a week ever.
The track was played 11,816 times last week - an average of 90 plays per station.
The figure beats previous record holders Ke$ha and Lady GaGa, who take second and third position respectively with ‘Tik Tok’ and ‘Bad Romance’.

Pixie Lott

Awe how cute! ~ Pixie Lott made a surprise appearance at a Surrey school to reward students who raised money for charity.
Children at the Amesbury School covered Pixie’s No.1 single ‘Boys And Girls’ and posted the video online to raise money for the Cardiac Risk In The Young organisation.
Pixie recently became a patron of the charity, said that she is proud of the student’s dedication to the cause... speaking to a national newspaper she said: “When I first heard their version of my song it instantly put a smile on my face,” ... “They did such a great job and made it their own. This whole group of children made me so proud.”

Olly Murs

Good news for all you Olly Murs fans... He has confirmed the release date of his debut single.
In a video posted on his official website, Olly announced the details about the track (Which he has also co-written)
Olly (Who was runner-up on last year’s X-Factor) revealed that his new song ‘Please don’t let me go’ will be digitally and physically released on 28th August and 29th August respectively.
“I'm very much looking forward to that because I'm going to be going to the shop to buy it myself.”
He described it as a “summery” song... Watch this space huh; i wonder how it will chart?

Susan Boyle

You gotta love Susan Boyle for remaining so down to Earth... She surprised fans by appearing as the guest of honour at a local school fete, Susan turned out for the event in her Scottish hometown of West Lothian and was more than happy to sign autographs and pose for pictures, and later crowned the winner of the Gala Queen contest.
A parent at the fete is quoted as saying: “Susan made the children's day. She's such a massive star now - we were all amazed she turned up.”

Lauryn Hill

Lauryn Hill has spoken for the first time about her decision to leave the public eye.... (and it’s nothing to do with her coming across as an arrogant, spoilt brat ... i know, i was surprised too!)
Apparently there are a “number of different reasons” for her absence... Lauryn told a national news paper: “The support system that I needed was not necessarily in place. There were things about myself, personal growth things that I had to go through in order to feel like it was worth it.”... “Oftentimes, the machine can overlook the need to take care of the people who produce the sounds that have a lot to do with the health and well-being of society... And it's important that people be given the time that they need to go through, to grow, so that the consciousness level of the general public is properly affected.”
She went on... “I don't know if you know this, but I have five children. The youngest is 2 now, so she's old enough that I can leave her for a period of time and know she's going to be okay.”
Lauryn also revealed that she feels it is “time” to make her comeback.
“I'm starting to get excited again. Believe it or not, I think what people are attracted to about me, if anything, is my passion. People got exposed to my passion through music and song first... And I think that can be infectious.” ~ Whatever i think about her attitude that i’ve seen on TV interviews there’s no denying that her album ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’ is a masterpiece! (and it’s hard to believe that it was 12 YEARS ago!)

Leona Lewis

I went to see Leona Lewis in concert on Sunday night at The O2 and she certainly surprised me!
I would have been perfectly happy (and was expecting) to be sat there for 2 hours listening to her belt out the ballads, instead it spent most of it dancing around the place while she sang versions of ‘Sweet dreams’ and ‘They don’t care about us’ (which was to the music of Daft Punks ‘Harder, Faster, Stronger’, However for me the highlights (in addition to those to) have to be when she sang ‘Bleeding love’ and ‘Run’.
She plays Dublin again tonight, so if you’re going to see her, get on your dancing shoes, you’re in for a fantastic night!

Flo-Rida - Club Can't Handle Me

Michael Jackson

It’s official! ~ Michael Jackson has sold more records in the UK than any other artist over the past 12 months.
Michael Jackson (who died a year ago today) has sold 1.54 million singles and 2.77m albums, making a grand total of 4.31 MILLION record sales.
The total album sales puts Michael Jackson ahead of Michael Bublé, who has sold just over 2 million albums in the same period.
On the anniversary of Michaels death, the Official Charts Company has also compiled lists of the ten biggest-selling albums and singles by Michael Jackson since his passing.

The biggest-selling singles were
1: ‘Man In The Mirror’
2: ‘Billie Jean’
3: ‘Thriller’
4: ‘Smooth Criminal’
all of which sold over 100,000 units in 12 months.

The best-selling album was:
1: ‘The Essential Michael Jackson’ followed at 2: ‘OST soundtrack to This Is It’, which sold 500,000 copies.
OCC managing director Martin Talbot said: “The UK was one of Michael Jackson's favourite countries in the world and he had a massive fanbase here, as these figures clearly demonstrate... “They came out and bought his music in massive numbers after his untimely death last summer - and will no doubt do so again, over the coming days and weeks, as they commemorate this month's anniversary.”

The Saturdays

The Saturdays have confirmed that their upcoming album will actually be a mini album, (Kinda like what Soulja Boy Tellem and Keane did)
The girl recently announced that the title of their third studio record is ‘Headlines’.
Discussing the bands plans band member Una said on Irish TV “We have a mini album coming out at the end of August, loads of summer shows all over the UK , performing all the time, and that's it really! ... “And we have a book coming out in September, an autobiography about who we were before the band, how we got into the band and how it's been until now.”
She also confirmed that fans can expect to see a return of the bright colours that the band wore during their first album campaign... “We love our colour, and we went away from that for a while, and are fans were like 'Please bring back the colour!' So we're bringing back the colour!”
The girls will premiere the music video for the album's trailer single ‘Missing You’ on Saturday.

Stevie Wonder

I went to see Stevie Wonder last night in The O2 and he was absolutely brilliant! The highlight had to be when he sang ‘Superstition’ – The crowd was amazin’ everyone up on their feet! From the moment he came on he didn’t leave the stage once, it was surprising too how fantastic ‘Happy birthday’ went down too (although we could of done without ‘I just called, to say, i love you...’)

Keri Hilson

See, Honesty is the best policy – it make people respect you more as to why you do things... Keri Hilson has said not only does she likes writing songs for other artists, she’s in it for the money too!
Keri who has written tracks for Britney Spears and Omarion, told revealed that she relies on the income she receives from song writing.
“No, it's money in the bank. That's my means of living. There's two sides of me, and neither takes preference," she explained... “One is just a dream that I fought long and hard for. Songwriting was my Plan B. My whole life, I've fought to just do this. I didn't know that I'd be able to take off as far, or as fast, as I did, but I knew I had a talent and that I should pursue it, because there's money in it.” ... “Even at my peak, the highest I can be as an artist, I always want to be keeping my creative juices flowing, keeping money in the bank, putting my intellectual property out there.”
Respect!

Leslie - Never Never

Dommage.

Kelly Clarkson

Good news!
Kelly Clarkson has revealed that she has started work on her 5th album!
Kelly’s last album ‘All i ever wanted reached No. 3 in the UK album chart and also gave her her first UK No.1 single with ‘My life would suck without you’, posted a message on her Twitter account that she has just recorded the first track for the album.
She tweeted: “Officially recorded the first song for my 5th album today! It's so awesome and is a duet but I can't tell you who quite yet :)”

Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson has made more than $1 BILLION since he died a year ago!
$383m was generated in album sales, $400 from his ‘This is it’ film (Both Cinema and DVD takings). A new record deal is estimated to be worth $32m.
Even though his tour never started, ticket sales from fans (including myself) who opted for their ticket rather than a refund generated $6.5m other royalties came from downloads, ringtones and other DVD sales...

Jay-Z

I’d say the NYPD aren’t happy with Jay-Z this morning after Jay-Z went ahead with an outdoor show in New York last night just days after it was axed due to security fears...
It was reported last week that Jay-Z was forced to cancel the free concert in the city centre after news of it leaked and thousands planned to turn up.
His performance was due to be part of his appearance on ‘The Late Show with David Letterman’.
Jay-Z instead moved the concert onto the roof of the TV show’s studio and invited 100 fans to watch him perform with surprise guest Eminem. No permit was required as the gig was held on private property.
Dam, now i woulda loved to have been there for that, i remember seeing U2 perform on the rooftop of their hotel in Dublin a few years ago – and it was awesome!

Backstreet Boys & New Kids On The Block

The Backstreet Boys joined New Kids On The Block on stage during a recent performance in New York, both boybands (or ‘Manbands’) took the stage at Radio City Music Hall in New York to perform the Backstreet Boys hit ‘I Want It That Way’.
“I think this is definitely a special collaboration and timing is everything in showbusiness,” New Kids member Joey McIntyre said.
Speaking about the Backstreet Boys fans, Donnie Wahlberg added: “They have very loyal fans and we have very loyal fans, but I think looking at the few women who were sprinkled around during rehearsal, there was just a look that I haven't seen too often.” – Not quiet sure it’s something i would of like to have seen..

Shakira

Shakira has said that she is happy to be playing at this year’s Glastonbury Festival.
Shakira will perform on the Pyramid Stage on Saturday at the event in Somerset, UK
In an interview by festival co-organiser Emily Eavis, Shakira told a national newspaper “I know that Glastonbury is one of the most famous and popular musical festivals in Europe, if not the world, and I'm so happy to be a part of its 40th anniversary... “I understand that you donate about £2m every year to charity, and that's pretty amazing, and it was also one of the reasons that it was so appealing to me to be a part of this. I know that you are socially aware and that makes a tremendous difference to me. I hope I don't disappoint!”
She added: “They'll probably have to pull me by the hair and put me in the car! I know I'm not going to want to leave. And I heard that Gorillaz is performing, right? I love Gorillaz. And Muse. That's some of my favourite bands for sure... “The xx are also going to be playing and I just collaborated with them on an album of covers of their own music. I covered ‘Islands’, which is one of my favourite songs right now.”
Can’t help wondering though if Glastonbury is the sort of venue for Shakira... Mind you folk said that about Jay-Z and he nailed it! ~ Still, time will tell...

Radiohead

Radiohead guitarist Ed O'Brien has confirmed that the recording of Radiohead’s 8th studio album is almost completed.
Speaking to BBC 6 Music he said that the group had worked in a “different spirit” to their previous album... “It's genuinely exciting, it's very different to what we did last time. It's just really nice to be doing this. It's so good to be making music with the band that you feel is still as good as it's ever been... “Making records has been hard - it's always been a slog. Traditionally, Radiohead in the studio has been, 'Don your tin helmet, get in their and just see it out'. it's kind of like a war of attrition.”
He added: “For ages and ages it seems like the finishing line is miles away, and now it feels its in touching distance. But of course, it being a creative process, it's like anything... “You have bursts of energy and you achieve a lot in a certain small period amount of time and then something things slow down and you're nearly there... Yeah, hopefully it's going to be a matter of weeks.”
I for one can’t wait to hear the album!

Simon & Garfunkel

Looks like it was never meant to be huh...
Simon & Garfunkel have cancelled their North American tour due to Art Garfunkel's vocal paresis, after originally postponing the tour from April to July.
They released a statement on their official website stating that Garfunkel's condition “inhibits the duo from performing shows”.
The message also went onto say that he is expected to make a full recovery... “I do feel bad about disrupting so many people's plans but, as I continue to mend, I can't yet bring my A-game to a tour, and I would not perform for you with anything less,” Garfunkel added.

Refunds will be offered to those who have purchased tickets for the cancelled dates.

Christina Aguilera

Oh dear oh dear... things are going from bad to worse for Christina Aguilera, not only did she fail to bag herself a US No.1 album with comeback album ‘Bionic’ it slumped from No.1 in the UK down to No.29 making it the biggest single week drop in chart HISTROY... The poor album sales come soon after she suddenly postponed her American tour, which has now been put back to next year.

Ben L'Oncle Soul - Soulman

Paloma Faith

The fantastic Paloma Faith has revealed that she turned down the opportunity to be a backing singer for Amy Winehouse before her own singing career took off.
According to a national newspaper, Paloma said that she owed it to herself to go it alone in the music industry.
“It was very flattering to be offered a place in Amy Winehouse's band as a backing singer before I started being publicly recognised... “It was a great opportunity - but I felt I had to follow my dream and I turned it down to write and perform my own songs.”
Great decision if you ask me!

Dannii Minogue

Dannii Minogue has reportedly signed a new record deal worth £1 million with dance label Ministry of Sound.
Dannii who has so far scored nine Top10 hits in her music career, is rumoured to be working on a new album with dance duo Freemasons
According to MTV, Dannii will perform the record’s first single during on of The X Factor live shows.
Dannii Minogue’s last official studio album was 2003's ‘Neon Nights’, which peaked at No.8 on the UK album chart.
Can’t wait to hear what she’s got in the pipeline!

John Lennon

Lyrics handwritten by John Lennon have sold at a New York auction for $1.2m (£800,000).
Lyrics to the song ‘A Day in the Life’, are written on a single piece of paper and feature spelling mistakes and crossings out. A neater version is written on the reverse side.
David Redden, Sotheby's Books and Manuscripts Department international chairman told a news agency: “The outstanding price achieved for these handwritten lyrics is testament to the iconic status of The Beatles, John Lennon and especially this song.”
The piece was reportedly sold to an American collector, well above the estimated sale price.
It’s not a record though for lyrics belonging to ‘The fab four’ ... The record for Beatles lyrics sold at auction was set in 2005, when $1.25m was paid for the ‘All You Need Is Love’ lyrics.

Eminem & Rihanna - Love The Way You Lie

Katie Price

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear... Alan Carr has said that Katie Price is keen to perform her new single on his Channel 4 show.
Katie & Alex Reid have been booked for a joint interview on Alan Carr’s ‘Chatty Man’ series later this month.
Speaking to a national newspaper Alan revealed that Katie looks likely to take centre stage by belting out her forthcoming solo release.
He confirmed: “She and Alex are coming on the second show in the new series and Katie is threatening to perform her new disco number. It'll make for good viewing anyway.”

Katie Price announced her pop plans on Twitter earlier this month, telling fans that she will release her single on July 12.

Dr Dre

Dr Dre has said that his new track ‘Under Pressure’ was not finished when it leaked on-line on Wednesday.
Dre addressed the leak on the record labels website by saying that fans should wait for a proper version before making judgements on the song, He wrote... “I want to set the record straight for everybody who's been waiting to hear my music,” ... “The song that's out on the internet is an incomplete song that I'm still working on. When it's ready, you'll be hearing it from me.”
Does no-one have security anymore in record companies...?

Jamelia

Jamelia has revealed that she is ready to make her musical comeback.
Jamelia who left her record label EMI in 2007, confirmed that she is on the cusp of signing a new record deal and that she already has a new single is ready for release.
“I'm about to sign a new deal. The first single’s ready and as soon as I sign the deal, I’ll record the video,” she told a national newspaper
Asked if she was disappointed about leaving her previous label, she said: “Not really. A clause in my contract said that after ten years I could walk away and that's what I decided to do. It was like a relationship that fizzled out... “Me and EMI weren’t in love any more. I still speak to everyone at the label, they're still my friends, it's just one of those things.”
Can’t wait, she’s had a good few brilliant songs over the years!

Travie McCoy & Bruno Mars - Billionaire

Now this is just plain creepy...

If you've used Ticketmaster to purchase or check the price of tickets, you know the drill: Before you're allowed to see what's available, you must go through a "security check" that involves typing two distorted words.

Oftentimes, the words generated by this computer server seem almost nonsensical. A sampling from not two minutes ago: "awareness be" ... "shutout business" ... "Danforth from" ... "for disables" ...

But does CAPTCHA ever generate a combination of words that doesn't seem so random?

While doing research for a Summer Concert Preview, this is the challenge-response test I was confronted with on Wednesday (snapped with my iPhone):

Most likely, this is one of the more unfortunate coincidences in the history of word-verification software. For Ticketmaster's part, they say: "We use a third-party provider for these, and we are going to look into this."

Visit the new Discovery Place ... for free

From a Discovery Place press release that just popped into my inbox:

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Discovery Place will open its doors to a new era and to the public free of charge on Sunday, June 27, as part of a celebration that concludes the Museum’s $31.6 million renovation. The finale of the 18-month renovation brings all new interactive science and technology exhibits to Discovery Place, including extraordinary new experiences such as a diverse aquarium, a brand new 3D digital theatre, and new lab stations for hands-on science.

“Visitors to our re-imagined Discovery Place will find the Museum transformed by all new, original exhibits showcasing contemporary science and technology activities,” said John Mackay, president and CEO of Discovery Place, “Rarely does a Museum have the opportunity to re-create the visitor experience from scratch. We’ve worked hard to develop unique and engaging activities that will bring the “wow” of science to visitors of all ages.”

Public Free Day coincides with the opening of the final two of nine new exhibitions developed and installed at Discovery Place since fall 2009: “Fantastic Frogs”, featuring live frog species, gives visitors a closer look at the “superpowers” that enable frogs to survive in even the harshest of conditions and “World Alive”, a celebration of biodiversity designed around eco-systems that includes a renovated and upgraded rainforest, a larger and more spectacular aquarium, and two themed hands-on labs.

“After years of design and planning and 18-months of construction, we are inviting the community in to discover the new Discovery Place,” continued Mackay. “We are very grateful for the support we have received throughout the renovation and Public Free Day is a small way of saying thank you.”

Discovery Place’s Public Free Day will take place from noon – 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 27, 2010. Museum admission will be free to all guests. IMAX® Dome Theatre admission is not included in Public Free Day.
