Steve Brookstein

Here’s another blast from the past... The very first ‘X-Factor’ winner (back in 2004): Steve Brookstein has said that he regrets falling out with Simon Cowell.
Steve scored a number one single and album way back then but disagreed with his mentor (Simon) over songwriting issues and was then released from the media mogul's record label.
“This is what happens when you fall out with Simon Cowell,” he told a Sunday newspaper
Steve was speaking following his performance at a pub in Cornwall, which attracted just 50 people... Ooops!
Lesson to be learned here is at least make your first million before you go off on one when someone has vastly more experience (and cash)!

Sugababes

Mark my words... One day they’re gonna make a movie about this band! The latest reports are that Keisha Buchanan is suing the current Sugababes in an attempt to stop the band from using its name...
When Keisha was asked to leave the group last year and was replaced by Jade Ewen it meant that none of the original Sugababes members were still involved in the band.
According to a Sunday newspaper Kaisha has now launched a legal bid to claim a stake in the band, which she founded in 1998.
The High Court action reportedly demands that the current Sugababes members – Jade Ewen, Heidi Range and Amelle Berrabah - either change the group's name or pay her a one-off sum, (which could amount to millions of pounds)
“This is a landmark case and will send shockwaves through the industry,” the newspaper reports... “The Sugababes are one of the most successful girlbands of all time, but if they are forced to change their name it would be absolutely disastrous for them,..It would be very hard for them to maintain any credibility if they had no original band members and were called something else.”
“Keisha was an integral member from the very beginning so it is easy to understand why she is acting like this. She even came up with the band's name with fellow founder member Mutya Buena and deserves something for making the Sugababes what they are today.”
Will the bitching ever stop...? i personally vote for all the original members to come back!

Aerosmith

Aerosmith have announced a European tour this summer and it will be complete with front man Steven Tyler!
The guys released a video on Thursday which contained the news of the tour. Steven recently completed three months in rehab for an addiction to prescription painkillers and the rest of Aerosmith threatened to audition replacements when they learned that Steven was on drugs.
“I just auditioned and I got the gig,” Steven Tyler joked... “We're coming your way and rocking your world. Look out baby - because here we come again.” ... You gotta love Steven for his humour ~ Watch out Dublin!

Rihanna

Oh dear ... Rihanna has revealed that she wrote the track ‘Cold Case Love’ about her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown.
she wrotethe song after being assaulted by Chris Brown in March last year... “It's a song that everybody wanted to hear,” she admitted on CNN, “Everything that I didn't say for the past eight months, exactly how I felt about that relationship and how I feel about it now - that song says it all.”
Some of the lyrics in the song include, “Your love was breaking the law, but I needed a witness,” and, “What you did to me was a crime, cold case love.” On the flip side, Rihanna reportedly cried after she was played Chris Brown's song ‘'Changed Man’, which he wrote after the incident.

Amy Winehouse

Mitch Winehouse yesterday revealed that his daughter, Amy, once turned down a duet with Robbie Williams.
While presenting his online show ‘Mitch Winehouse's Showbiz Rant’, he said: “I'm a bit worried about Robbie, next thing he'll be wanting to make a record with Amy. That's preposterous... He added: “Actually he said that once... he wanted to do a record with Amy. Amy said, ‘Are you f**king joking?’”
He also voiced fears that Amy has replaced drugs with a shopping addiction, claiming she has spent thousands on shoes she has never worn... if i were you Mitch, i’d be thankful it’s shoes!

Jesus Luz

Madonna’s boyfriend: Jesus Luz, has just signed a two single record deal with Madonna’s old label ‘Warner’ and they also have first refusal on an album should the track be a success!
Madonna has reportedly pulled more than a few strings to get Jesus on the books and has also has also come at her expense in more ways than one: First off it’s rumoured that she’s had to give permission for her No.1 hits ‘Like a prayer’ & ‘Vogue’ to be licensed in major TV adds in America (Something Madonna hardly EVER does) ...
Also it’s been said that she’s footing the bill for all his studio time and expenses...
I just hope it’s all worth it Madonna!
At least I’ll have the B-Side of his track which will be a re-mix featuring Madonna vocal as a souvenir!

Cheryl Cole

A word of advice to ALL female artists ... ALWAYS use your maiden name as your stage name, (Just in case...) Cheryl Cole is the latest artist to fall into this trap and is now rumored to be re-releasing her solo album under her maiden name.
Mel B (from the Spice Girls) was victim to this (Release track under Mel G) of course Tina Turner just wouldn’t be the same if she went back to ‘Bullock’ ...

U.S Charts

Bars and clubs give it the ol' CIAA try

You know it’s CIAA time when an EpiCentre club like Whisky River – which often hosts concerts by country artists including Luke Bryan and Craig Morgan – rolls out the red carpet for rapper Nelly.

It’s an, um, interesting transformation. I mean, if you think about it, it’d kind of be like the Excelsior (a private black club on Beatties Ford Road) hosting a NASCAR-themed party the night before the Coca-Cola 600.

Now, I’m not trying to pick on Whisky River or the EpiCentre. Plenty of uptown clubs that don’t specifically court black patrons throughout the year change their tune during the CIAA. And it obviously makes good business sense for bars and clubs situated close to the arena to do so.

However … if any bar or club that’s not typically very diverse throws a CIAA party, it should realize the invitation could ring false: Hey, I know this is normally the last place you’d want to hang out, but come on by this week!

(Incidentally, there are fans and revelers out there who not only resent the invitation, but who also have in the past said bars and clubs hold CIAA partiers to a different standard when it comes to security, dress codes, cover charges, etc.)

Why bring this all up? Not because I’m a pot-stirrer. Not because I have a solution for what seems to be a perennial hot-button issue. I bring this all up to remind you that Whisky River and other not-typically-black clubs, they really are trying with the rap shows, and with the other CIAA-themed parties.

If you get there and you feel like they're not trying hard enough, make sure you and your friends take your business somewhere else.

Sydney: No vacancies - Sydney CBD Hotels

HOTELS all over Sydney are hanging out the "no vacancy" signs as a perfect storm of sporting and cultural events converges to make this one of the city's busiest tourist weekends.

The ''no room at the inn'' weekend follows, rather ironically, the announcement of the resignation of John O'Neill from Events NSW, whose work in attracting visitors to Sydney contributed more than $500 million to the economy last year together with business conferences.

Sugababes

Will the Sugababes album EVER get released....? They’ve postponed the release of their new album ‘Sweet 7’ again to 15th March.
The album was originally due out in November ‘09, then it was pushed back to 8th March to allow new member Jade Ewen to re-record Keisha Buchanan's vocals.
“The album is coming out on march the 15th now. Xxxx” Amelle wrote on Twitter. “Btw, thank u 2 all of those who have bought the single.”
I’m quite liking there new single though ‘Wear my kiss’ (Even if it does sound very much like a certain Britney song!)

The Saturdays

The Saturdays are working with Taio Cruz on new material!
Una Healy posted on her Twitter: “@TaioCruzMusic looking forward to working with you tomorrow!!”.
Taio Cruz later responded: “Likewise Una, See you tomorrow.”
The Saturday’s are yet to confirm whether the material will be included on their third album or a re-release of of their second album ‘Wordshaker’ (which i was gonna buy over the weekend, but opted for Marina & The Diamonds instead).

Lemar

Lemar said yesterday that he recently collaborated with dance DJ Chicane.
He admitted that he is eager to try out different music genres on his next studio album.
“I did something with Chicane recently which I can't wait to get out,” he told a national newspaper... “I'm looking to experiment on my fifth album, so this is a nice way of testing the water.”
Can’t wait to hear it (even though I’m not a fan of Lemar) Chicane is though is brilliant!

Chicane previously collaborated with Bryan Adams & Tom Jones in 2 of the best dance songs of the last decade!

Gloriana - The World Is Ours Tonight

Coldplay

Coldplay have announced that they will release their 5th album “hopefully this Christmas”.
They have been recording new material under maximum security in North London... “There are only two people in the whole building who know how to open all the recording files,” Chris Martin explained ... “Even we don't know how to do it. We couldn't even steal our own music. You would have to be a computer genius and a great burglar to get into the building, and download it, and mix it.”
Their last album “Viva la Vida” sold a massive 9 Million copies, it’ll be hard to top it guys!

Vengaboys

Okay i don’t care what you say... Wooo Whooooo ~ The Vengaboys have reportedly filmed a new music video in London.
The band has just finished a sellout UK / Ireland (as well as the rest of Europe) promotional tour and are now said to be planning a fulltime pop comeback.
The band wrote on their Twitter page: “In London for the videoshoot... It's gonna be a 19 hour workday but i promise you, it'll be SO worth it!” the group wrote on Twitter.
The Vengaboys sold 15 MILLION records during their time! And for all their cheese, they will (along with Aqua) always bring a smile to my face :-)

Chico

Just when we had all forgotten who Chico was, it’s now been reported that he’s about to release an unofficial World Cup song!
But wait for it... it’s a re-working of his 2006 No.1 single ‘It’s Chico time’ only now he ‘sings’ ‘It’s football time’ .... Maybe i should fall asleep now ‘till the world cup is over so i don’t have to listen to all the crap that’s about to be released in the run up the world cup...

Jay-Z

Jay-Z today announced his plans to release more music videos for songs from his brilliant album ‘The Blueprint 3’.
Jay-Z’s 11 album has so far sold almost two million copies, Jay-Z said: “I wanna shoot ‘Venus vs. Mars’. I may shoot two - I shot ‘Run this town’ and ‘D.O.A’ (Death Of Auto-Tune)’, I been shooting two at the same time... “I'll probably shoot ‘Venus’ and maybe ‘A Star Is Born’. But I definitely wanna shoot ‘Venus’ - I got an amazing concept in my mind.”

This kids' stuff is serious business

What’s the toughest ticket in Charlotte this weekend?

If you think it’s Black Eyed Peas, you’re wrong: Their concert at Time Warner Cable Arena on Saturday still has plenty of open seats.

Meanwhile, none are available for two of the four weekend performances of “Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel” by Children’s Theatre of Charlotte’s Tarradiddle Players. And tickets for William Shakespeare’s “As You Like It,” which CTC bows tonight … well, if you don’t have some already, you’re out of luck. Its entire eight-show run is sold out.

Part of the reason tickets to “As You Like It” were gobbled up is because only 100 were allotted per show; it’s being done in “promenade” style, so the audience will move around ImaginOn’s open spaces with the actors.

But Children’s Theatre – which has been staging shows since 2005 at ImaginOn – definitely is on a hot streak despite the sagging economy.

Last fall, its season opener, “Beauty and the Beast,” sold out 18 of 21 shows at ImaginOn’s 570-seat McColl Family Theatre. In December, “If You Take a Mouse to the Movies” had eight sellouts over 14 performances; Children’s Theatre audience services director Rob Odum says it “was probably the biggest holiday show – in terms of audience numbers – in our history.”

Performances of those and other popular shows have been added on the fly to accommodate demand, Odum says, but they try not to overdo it. “We don’t want to feel like we’re growing so fast too that we sacrifice the quality of the work.”

Looking ahead, certain performances of CTC shows in March (“Treasure Island”), April (“Good Night Moon”), and May (“The Commedia King Arthur”) have already sold out.

So here’s a tip: If you have kids who enjoy theater, buy now, because StubHub can’t help you on this one.

JLS

Good news for JLS ... Jay-Z made a prediction that JLS will achieve widespread success in the US!
Jay-Z saw JLS at the Brit’s on Tuesday and afterwards said that they could be as popular as 'N Sync.
“I liked JLS, I watched them do their show. They're a good band and remind me of 'N Sync, a band who do the boy band thing well,”... “They put on a class performance and I think they will go on to be as big as 'N Sync.”
JLS recently scored a contract with Jive Records is America and confirmed that they will release ‘Everybody in love’ as their first single later this year.

'N Sync reached number two with their self-titled debut album on the Billboard 200. Their follow-up records No Strings Attached and Celebrity both topped the charts. They have sold an estimated 56 million albums worldwide.

Personally – i can’t say i’m a fan and i was rather disappointed they won 2 Brits...!

US Charts

Ke$ha spends her ninth week at the No.1 spot in the singles chart in America despite strong competition from the Charity single to help Haiti.
Sade’s comeback album (after over a decade off the scene) goes straight in at No. 1 in the album chart selling a massive 502,000 copies in it’s first week.

Top 5 U.S Albums:

1: Ke$ha – ‘Tik Tok’

Sean Paul & Zaho - Hold My Hand

Impeccable.

Lady GaGa @ Brit Awards 2010

Juste sublime.

Iyaz - Solo

Abbey Road studios

It’s a sad day learning that EMI Records has put London's Abbey Road studios up for sale!
The iconic recording base, located in St John's Wood and immortalized by The Beatles' 1969 album Abbey Road, is being made available by the company's owners Terra Firma.
As well as The Beatles, iconic bands like: Oasis, Blur, Manic Street Preachers, Pink Floyd and Radiohead have recorded at Abbey Road.
Abbey Road was first opened in 1931 by the Gramophone Company, (which later became EMI)

Brit Awards 2010

The best performance of the night had to go to either: Dizzee Rascal & Florence + The Machine or Jay-Z & Alicia Keys.
By far the worst performance had to be Cheryl Cole’s attempt at miming, it was pure dreadful and a complete embarrassment! It had all the potential of being a brilliant performance ... She let herself down!

I have to agree with host Peter Kay when he called Liam Gallagher a ‘Knob Head’ after he threw his mic AND BRIT award into the crowd! ... In fact i could think of a few better words than that!
Lady Gaga stole the show by winning 3 awards and her whacky (yet rather cool) hairdo and outfit.

Sam Tsui - Lady GaGa Medley

Artists For Haiti - We Are The World 25 for Haiti

The Black Eyed Peas - Imma Be Rocking That Body

Tinchy Stryder

Tinchy Stryder has revealed that he has started work on his second album.
Tinchy wrote on his blog to inform his fans that he’s back in the studio... “Can't wait for u all to hear it, it's a step up, who would have thought lol”
he also hinted that his new material will feature more collaborations, (following on from the success of his two No.1 singles ‘Number 1’ & Never leave you’
He continued ... “Who do you wanna hear featured on my next album??” “I've already got a title that I'm keepin secret but I still wanna know - What do you lot think da title should be?? Hit me uppppp!!!”

iTunes

Could you win Apple’s new competition...?
Apple's iTunes store has announced details to mark its ten billionth download.
The company, who have amassed the unimaginable figure since its launch in 2001, confirmed plans to give a $10,000 (£6,390) gift card to the lucky customer who buys the track that pushes it up to its landmark number.
iTunes also released its most purchased songs ever ... I’m actually quiet surprised by it to be honest!:

1. 'I Gotta Feeling' Black Eyed Peas
2. 'Poker Face' Lady GaGa
3. 'Boom Boom Pow' Black Eyed Peas
4. 'I'm Yours' Jason Mraz
5. 'Viva La Vida' Coldplay
6. 'Just Dance' Lady GaGa
7. 'Low' Flo Rida featuring T-Pain
8. 'Love Story' Taylor Swift
9. 'Bleeding Love' Leona Lewis
10. 'Tik Tok' Kei$ha

New York vibe gives Butter flavor

On paper, it might look like a recipe for failure: Two New York nightclub owners decide to try their luck in Charlotte – by bringing us “a slice of New York nightlife.” After all, New York mentalities and perspectives sometimes don’t play well around here.

However, the owners of the posh new Butter Charlotte on the northern edge of uptown aren’t your average Manhattan nightclub owners. And one of them – 35-year-old Scott Sartiano – is guided by a Carolinas upbringing, having attended high schools in Columbia, Greenville (N.C.) and Hendersonville; his parents live in Kannapolis.

The 8,300-square-foot, bi-level space has hosted private events every weekend since its soft opening last month, and Friday night, Butter opens its oversized, faux cow skin-adorned doors to the masses. It’s another feather in the cap for the N.C. Music Factory, which also boasts concert venue The Uptown Amphitheatre, live-music club The Fillmore Charlotte, and Halo nightclub.

To give you a sense of how big a deal the clubs owned by Sartiano and business partner Richie Akiva in NYC are, become a regular reader of the New York Post online and you’ll eventually see their names on Page Six.

The Yankees celebrated their 2009 World Series win at Sartiano and Akiva’s Chelsea nightclub 1OAK. In December, their Butter restaurant in Lower Manhattan hosted an album release party for R&B crooner Robin Thicke; Jay-Z, Beyoncé and Usher were in attendance. Oh, and Sartiano’s exes include actresses Ashley Olsen and Jamie Lynn-Sigler.

So will our Butter become a regular hangout for celebrities, too? Almost certainly.

Pro Bowler Julius Peppers of the Carolina Panthers has already stopped in. Actor Wilmer Valderrama of “That ’70s Show” intended to celebrate his 30th birthday there last Friday night, but was snowed in in New York. Paris Hilton’s sister, Nicky, will be at Butter Friday night. And Black Eyed Peas reportedly will stop by after their concert at Time Warner Cable Arena Saturday night for an after-party sponsored by Bacardi (rumor has it will.i.am will serve as guest DJ).

“It’s important to have celebrities in a club,” Sartiano says. “That said, I don’t focus my business around them. I focus my business in good service and a great atmosphere, which is what ultimately keeps everyone – whether you’re a celebrity or not – coming back.”

In conversations with Sartiano, it wasn’t entirely clear what type of crowd he and Akiva are hoping to attract. On the one hand, it sounds like they plan to embrace everybody. But he also suggested that certain types of people aren’t welcome.

When asked to elaborate, Sartiano says, carefully: “Richie and I have always prided ourselves in making sure that our venues cater to a wide demographic of people. … That said, people with a great sense of style, fashion and culture create the vibe we want to maintain at Butter.”

How will this very-New York mentality play in Charlotte? Time will tell.

But on a recent Saturday night, Butter’s lower level was packed with happy-looking people – a wide demographic of happy-looking people – from velvet-covered wall to velvet-covered wall.

A sneak peek at Butter Charlotte

The scene: Award-winning club designer François Frossard has put together a space that oozes style, from the velvet flocked wall coverings inside to the Balinese daybeds on the outdoor patio. The lounge-like area upstairs – which guests walk into first – is punctuated by a protruding backlit sphere behind its main bar (pictured here).

A grand staircase leads down to the bigger main room, where most of the dancing takes place. The room’s centerpiece will be a giant chandelier that sends wild light shows bouncing across thousands of crystals; the VIP area (pictured below) is also here.

The music: On a recent Saturday night, NYC DJ Dimitry Mak downstairs wove together a top-notch mix of songs that ranged from Rihanna’s “Disturbia” to Prince’s “Kiss” to a club remix of Guns ‘N’ Roses’ “Sweet Child o’ Mine.” There’s also a DJ booth upstairs, where volume matches the vibe – it’s lower-key, so not as ear-splitting.

The drinks: Domestic beers are $5 each, imports are $6; wine by the glass, $10; liquors run $8-$75; $12 cocktails include a “Butter Martini” made with citrus vodka, orange and pomegranate liquors and pineapple juice. Bottle service is also available.

The servers: Attractive and bubbly twentysomething women in knee-high black leather boots and long-sleeved black mini dresses.

The details: 950 Seaboard St. in The N.C. Music Factory. 9 p.m.-2 a.m. Thursday-Saturday. Cover: $10. 704-295-1565; www.buttercharlotte.com.

Cascada - Pyromania

Leona Lewis - I Got You

Boy George

Boy George has revealed on his ‘Twitter’ that he is working with Mark Ronson! He posted: “On the way to studio with kevan to work with mark ronson!”
Mark Ronson is currently working on his next album and has already said that he has collaborated with the Scissor Sisters, Santogold and Cathy Dennis.
Now i can’t wait to hear that hook-up!
Mark's new album is shaping up to be just as good as his last ‘Version’

Black Eyed Peas

The Black Eyed Peas have announced plans to broadcast one of their concerts in hundreds of US cinemas next month.
The Peas will broadcast their concert from Los Angeles' Staples Center on 30th March to 500 select cinemas across the U.S
The concert is part of their “The E.N.D.” world tour, which started earlier this month.
For $15 (£9.55), cinema viewers will be treated to the live performance plus 30 minutes of behind-the-scenes footage including band interviews.

The Saturdays - Ego

Les anglais ont toujours aimé les girls-bands. Quelques exemples ?

Keri Hilson - I Like

The Pussycat Dolls - Wait A Minute

Katie Melua

Katie Melua is working with producer William Orbit for her new album.
Talking about how the album is shaping up William told a national newspaper: “I'm just putting the finishing touches to Katie's album. It's a very different sound for her. ... “She sent me some songs a while ago and I fell in love with her voice. We've had a really good time doing it. She's got the raw talent that I like.”
Her new album is due for release about May 2010 ~ William Orbit produced Madonna's 1998 album Ray Of Light and has since worked with acts including Robbie Williams, Blur, Sugababes and All Saints.
Can’t really imagine Katie Melua doing dance ... Lol
